Safety first

VELOREACT ("the app") is about shortening the distance between the machine and the hitter. That is the point of it, and it is also the part that can hurt someone. The app shows a safety notice on first launch, and you can re-read it any time from Settings → Safety.

The short version: use a protective screen, keep an adult supervising every session, match the distance to the hitter actually in front of you, and back up at the first sign that they cannot track the ball. The app knows a speed and a distance. It does not know your machine, your screen, your field, or who else is standing nearby, and it does not recommend any distance.

How it works

The main screen is one screen. Nothing scrolls.

  1. Set the pitch speed in the bar above the mound - type it or drag it. Tapping a number selects what is already there, so the first digit you type replaces the old value.
  2. Drag the release marker up or down the overhead bullpen. Distance moves in 6-inch steps from the regulation rubber at 60'6" down to 10 ft, and every number updates as you drag. You can type a distance instead; feet and inches are accepted (42, 42.5, 60'6").
  3. Read the answer - the big number is the reaction-time equivalent velocity against the regulation 60'6" mound, with the ball's flight time beside it.
  4. Tap ⚾ RACE IT to watch your pitch and its equivalent twin launch together and arrive at the same instant.

Frequently asked

Does 70 mph really become 101 mph? No. The baseball is still travelling 70 mph. From 42 feet it simply reaches the plate in about the same time as a 100.8 mph pitch travelling the full 60'6". That is why the app calls it reaction-time equivalent velocity.

How is it calculated? Flight time is distance ÷ speed, with speed converted at 1.4666667 feet per second per mph. The equivalent is mph × 60.5 ÷ distance. Every screen, chart, PDF and share card uses that one service, so nothing can disagree with anything else.

Why is there only one reference distance? Earlier builds let you compare against a 54' release point as well. It was cut: two references meant two answers to the same question and a toggle to explain, and the regulation mound is the number everyone already has in their head.

Why does it not model drag? Deliberately. A single, transparent, straight-line model is easy to explain to a twelve-year-old and easy to audit for a coach. A real baseball loses roughly 10% of its speed on the way to the plate, so treat the numbers as a training comparison rather than a measurement.

What about pitcher extension? A pitcher who strides further releases the ball closer to the plate, which is worth real milliseconds. The app does not model it yet; entering a specific pitcher's extension is planned.

I want a pitch log / pitch counts / session history. Not this app. There is no logging, no history and no database — nothing is stored except your settings.

Where do the velocity band labels come from? They are general educational ranges, not claims that every pitcher at a level throws that hard. Cross-sport comparisons are approximate and labelled as such.

Is "visual pressure" a measurement? No. It is a descriptive training category derived from flight time. The app never adds invented difficulty mph — the equivalent number already carries the flight-time difference.

Can I print a chart? Charts → Printable chart. Set the speed and distance ranges, preview, then share, save to Files or print. Landscape US Letter, white paper, navy ink, with the model's limits and the safety line printed in the footer.

Does the app use the internet? No. It contains no networking code and connects to no server. The Shop tab and the social rows are links that open your browser and leave the app — see the Privacy Policy for what that means.
